Doctrine and Covenants 60:2-3

4.4.16

Hello y'all!

What an amazing weekend we had here!! Not only did we get to have a cool family history booth at the Civil War Days in down town Hurricane, WV. General Conference was AMAZING!
So we had a great week previous to that too so we will begin our journey with Tuesday. We had some great lessons on Wednesday and one of the friends we are teaching accepted a baptismal date of May 14 and we are so excited for that. We will be teaching her the stop smoking workshop in the next few days. It is really cool to see the Lord’s hand helping us find her. We were trying to visit someone who had been investigating a while back and they were not home but this friend of ours mentioned the weather and said, " I wish I could get rid of this habit," as she waved her fingers with a cigarette in it. Well that is no problem because that is what we do for a living right now is help people live more Christ like lives. It really is all about being in the right place at the right time!:) We also had a really cool calling to repentance lesson with another one of our friends and she took it really well! She was not able to watch conference because she was sick but she is bound and determined to get to church soon! :) While teaching her, I realized that it really is Satan that works on us to make us feel like were are not good enough to change, that we are not good enough to pray to God, and that was also confirmed as we watched General Conference this weekend.

And Thursday was the beginning of our Journey into the Civil War days! :) It was a really cool event and we did it for 3 days a few hours a day, the times that we could fit into our schedule. But it was pretty cool. We were able to talk to a handful of people and get to know some of the members who had helped us even better. I wish it would not have been the same weekend as conference but I guess all was well and we were able to talk to some people that were really interested in family history!:)
Now lastly but absolutely not least was General Conference! What an amazing opportunity we have as Latter-day Saints to hear from the prophet and other general authorities! It really is the coolest thing and an opportunity I hope I never take for granted again. When I was at home I just did not understand the reality that was General conference really but now I am beginning to understand how amazing it is for us to literally hear from the prophet of the world, God’s servant and mouth piece in this ever-changing world. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet and know that all the other apostles we heard from are prophets, seers and revelators as well and they, as Elder Holland said, love us and they have their sights fixed on us! I know that we are their purpose and if we heed their counsel we will find great joy! We had a family come to the church to watch it with us and at the end she said even when a question would come up in her mind it was crazy because every time the next talk would answer her question. I know that she was in tune with the spirit and she is excited to hear the rest of it when she has off work enough to listen to it. I really did love Elder Holland's talk and it really was the one that I needed to hear. I know that times do get tough and that we are asked to do hard things as disciples of Christ often but there is no need to get overwhelmed when God is at the head of it all. He loves us and there are many people cheering us on to make it back home!

I hope you all had a wonderful Conference weekend as well and were able to have a soul searching question answered! Keep up the great work and never loose site of the things that are the most important in this life!

Love Sister Mauck
